Welcome,
As principal of Bishop Verot High School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Bishop Verot High School website!
We are located in beautiful Fort Myers, Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico, the largest of three Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Venice. Our school is named for the first Catholic Bishop of Florida, Augustin Verot, whose pioneering spirit and apostolic zeal laid the foundation for church life and ministry in this state over a century ago. Following his trailblazing spirit, Bishop Verot High School first opened its doors in 1962 and with the rest of Southwest Florida has steadily grown to meet the ever-increasing demand for Catholic education. Our reputation for excellence has been earned through our commitment to religious mission, academic achievement, service to the community, and a family atmosphere.
Under the spiritual leadership of the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales, a religious order of priests and brothers dedicated to the spirituality of the saint and bishop whose name they bear, the Bishop Verot community is guided by the belief that each person is created in the image and likeness of God, and that God may be served by doing passionately well what we have been called to do at that moment. For both students and teachers, each moment is an opportunity to grow in grace and wisdom. As Saint Francis de Sales once said, "Strive to see God in all things without exception." It is my sincere hope that these electronic pages will provide a useful introduction to what Bishop Verot High School is all about. Hopefully, in the words and images that follow, you can capture at least a glimpse of our unique spirit. In many ways a web site is like the school itself; some aspects should remain true and steady, while others go through regular changes. It is the nature of any school to change. Students enter and graduate, the world around us moves forward, new events make history and change our culture, and the school adapts to meet the new needs of each generation. But our faith and dedication to one another remain the same. As we continue to grow, it is more important than ever that we keep in touch with our extended Bishop Verot Family. I truly believe our greatest gift is that our school is a second home to the students, faculty and staff, families and friends of Verot that pass through our campus.
Please stay awhile and browse our electronic campus here at our website. Whether you are a current student or an alum, an old friend or someone encountering Bishop Verot for the first time, we hope you like what you see. Come back often, or stop by and see us. And I ask your prayers for our students, teachers, and the entire Bishop Verot Family.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. J. Christian Beretta, OSFS
