Summer Assignments for 2017 - 2018 School Year
This summer, we are asking all students at Bishop Verot Catholic High School to read the same book - Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations. This popular Christian book, authored by brothers Alex and Brett Harris, challenges teens to intentionally do FIVE kinds of hard things:
1. Things that are outside your comfort zone.
2. Things that go beyond what is expected or required.
3. Things that are too big to accomplish alone.
4. Things that do not earn an immediate payoff.
5. Things that challenge the cultural norm.
Since we can all benefit from applying these principles to our lives, this summer, in addition to reading the required books, we are asking all students to write an autobiographical essay of approximately 600 words. In their narrative essays, students need to explain what they learned from embracing one of these five challenges this summer. We hope all students will embrace the assignment with enthusiasm. Students will also have two additional books to read. If, for any reason, students or parents have a concerns with the content of any of the books, please contact Suzie O’Grady, Assistant Principal for Curriculum.
