Bishop Verot Announces Head Baseball Coach

Bishop Verot High School is pleased to announce their new head baseball Coach. Mr. Austin Flores will lead the Vikings starting next year. Flores, only the fourth head baseball coach at Bishop Verot in the past 26 years, began as an assistant coach at Mariner High School. Flores then moved on as a scout for Perfect Game USA and as a scout for Team USA at the 15u East Showcase before being hired as an assistant coach at Nicholls State University. Flores has been with Nicholls State for the past three years. Flores is currently the head coach of the Acadiana Cane Cutters in Lafayette, Louisiana which is a member of the Texas Collegiate League.

Flores, a 2008 graduate of Verot where he was a four-year starter, played at St. Johns River Community College before transferring to Nicholls State, a Division 1 program where he was a two-year starter and named to the Honor Roll before graduating from Nicholls State.

When asked what coaching at Bishop Verot would mean to him, Flores said, “It’s extremely difficult to put into words how excited I am to return home to Bishop Verot. I’ve always had so much respect for the school and take a great deal of pride as an alumnus. Verot is a great family and community to be a part of. I look forward to carrying the traditions set forth by Coach John Siuda, who was before my time as a player at Verot but was a great mentor to me as a student; Coach Tom LoSauro, my head coach at Verot, who taught me so much about the game of baseball; and Coach Nelson who was an assistant while I played at Verot and is one of the best teachers of baseball at the High School level. Those three coaches laid the foundation for the Bishop Verot baseball program and I look forward to continuing their success. My time spent at Nicholls State University has put me in this great situation and I thank the coaches who helped me grow and develop as a coach and leader but I look forward to this next chapter in my life. This has been an exciting week for my family and me and it feels great to say I’m coming home."

Bishop Verot Athletic Director John Gulley was asked what Flores brings to Verot, he remarked,  "We are blessed to have such a passionate and driven Coach take over the leadership of our program. We look forward to having Austin back continuing the successful tradition as those before him."

While Coach Flores fulfills his obligations as head coach in Louisiana, Assistant Coach Rich Nizza will serve as the acting Head Coach until Coach Flores is able to join the team in late July. Coach Flores will also teach PE and Social Studies at Bishop Verot.
